Clean Water, Healthier Communities

Rotary Action Groups are global networks of Rotary members and experts who specialize in a specific area of service. These groups help clubs plan effective projects, find international partners, and apply best practices.

The WASH Rotary Action Group focuses on clean water, sanitation, and hygiene initiatives. By working with WASH, Rotary clubs can access experienced guidance, connect with partner clubs around the world, and launch sustainable water projects that transform communities.

Every March, Rotary International highlights Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) as one of its key global areas of focus. Around the world, billions of people still lack reliable access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation. Rotary clubs help change that through service, partnerships, and sustainable projects.

Rotary’s WASH Action Group helps clubs partner with communities around the world to create lasting solutions. Through the WASH Action Group, clubs like ours in SE PA can hit the ground running in collaboration with a club in India, Africa, or Latin America to support projects that provide clean water systems, sanitation infrastructure, and hygiene education. These partnerships enable local Rotarians to have a global impact while working with experienced project leaders.

Since 2007, the WASH Rotary Action Group has facilitated hundreds of successful projects worldwide by helping clubs find partners, ensuring sustainability, stressing the importance of a needs-driven approach, and developing best practices. We encourage a holistic, integrated approach in which water is not the end in itself, but is rather the means to a better life and livelihood in the community.

Access to clean water improves more than just health. It can also:

  • Improve hygiene and reduce disease

  • Increase school attendance, especially for girls

  • Support agriculture and local livelihoods

  • Empower women within communities

  • Reduce child mortality

Clean water becomes the foundation for stronger families and more resilient communities.

Projects like these are a powerful reminder of what Rotary does best: bringing people together to solve real problems and improve lives.
